Our Farming Friends |
|
When Blue Cottage Jams was
no more than a neat idea, we spent many hours debating where we
would acquire our fruit and how we would support our state's
amazing farming community. We started with a great farm
who we had been buying fruit from for years, McPhail's Berry
Farm in Lynden, and from there we have grown to working with
more than dozen farms from around the state. We firmly
believe in giving our friends a fair price for their fruit,
because without their amazing work, we would not be able to make
such fresh tasting spreads.
Below is a list of most of the
farmers who we worked with last year. Thank you to all of
them for their time, effort, and farm fresh fruits.
|
|
Bill's Fruits - Yakima |
Bill and his wonderful family bring wonderfully fresh fruits
from the Yakima Valley. Beginning early in the season,
Bill has tasty Sonata and Rainier Cherries for our jams.
Tomcot Apricots are next, then amazing freestone peaches and
more apricots! Found at too many markets to mention,
but including, Kirkland, Edmonds, Woodinville and Lake Forest Park!
Come by for a taste! |
|
Duris Farm - Puyallup |
A lovely family farm in
Puyallup, they provide me with the best Loganberries in the
state! Not sprayed and full of amazing flavor! You
can find Becky at Issaquah Saturday and Lake Forest Park Sunday
Market! |
|
Ennis Farm - East
Wenatchee |
Another small family farm, we found them at Issaquah Saturday
Market. Featuring a wide variety of fruits and vegetables,
we love their plums and Bartlett pears! Thank you Pam for
all the great fruit! |
|
Family Pepper and Produce
- Wapato |
If you have been to
Kirkland, Crossroads, or Lake Forest Parks Market, you have
probably talked to Pedro or his sons. Known for his
peppers, he also grows great pears and Concord Grapes!
|
|
Haas Farm - Wapato |
We ran into Haas Farm
at Redmond Saturday Market and discovered amazing Concord Grapes
and many other delicious fruits. |
|
Harvold Farm - Carnation |
A simple U-Pick Farm
with the best Strawberries and Raspberries around.
Our whole family takes turns going out to pick as many as we can
every summer. A great time and a great price. Come
on out and join the fun. |
|
Hayton Farm - Mount Vernon |
Great berries from
Mount Vernon. Everything from Strawberries, Raspberries,
Blackberries and Blueberries, they grow big delicious fruits.
We enjoy the blueberries the best for our syrups! Visit
with them at many local markets, including Kirkland, Lake Forest
Park, Issaquah, and more! |
|
Jones Creek Farms
- Lyman |
Our favorite Apple grower! Thank you Les for the juicy and
flavorful Gravensteins, Bostocks, King, and so many other
different tasty varieties. Ususally the earliest Italian
Plums come from here, and hopefully next year Gooseberries will
too! Visit with Les at Kirkland or Redmond Markets - ask
him anything about apples and listen to the great tales. |
|
Martin Family Orchard -
Orondo/Cashmere |
Without the Martin
Family Orchard, I would not be able to make Bing Cherry jam.
Kurt and Terry are at many local markets, including Pike's
Place, Kirkland, Edmonds, and many others! After the
cherries, there are always apricots, peaches and pears to jam. |
|
McPhails Berry Farm
-
Lynden |
Specializing in many of the more unique berries grown here in
Washington, Marty McPhail, his son Todd and their family have
been bringing a delicious variety of fruits to eastside markets
for years. We were lucky enough to run into Marty several
years ago at Redmond Saturday Market, where we re-discovered
Gooseberries and Currants! Since then he has introduced us
to his fabulous Tayberries, and other berries for which we are
extremely grateful! Come meet them at Redmond, Kirkland,
Columbia City or one of their other markets! |
|
Minea Farm - Redmond |
A
wonderful find here in Redmond. Minea Farm is owned and
operated by Lee and Vanda Minea. Their specialty is cider
made on the premises on a 100 yr. old press. They also
have quite a nice orchard featuring Montmorency Cherries, Plums,
Quinces and of course Apples. |
|
Orondo Cider Works -
Orondo |
If you are ever north of Wenatchee or south of Lake Chelan, try
and stop in a lovely Cider shop run by Sharon and Chuck.
Makers of fine cider, they also grow a variety of fruits, we
enjoyed their strawberries in our syrups and jams. Also,
while you are there, pick up some of their jams, for they are
made in our kitchens with their fruit as well as fruit from
these other fine farmers. |
|
Remlinger Farm - Carnation |
A
great find in Carnation. Remlinger Farm combines a
extensive farm store, a lovely amusement park, and U-Pick fields
for the family to enjoy. Come by throughout the summer and
enjoy the relaxing environment and the great food from the
Remlinger Kitchen. |
|
|
Located just north of
Orondo, this charming farm and farm stand on the banks of Lake
Chelan, offers a wonderful spot to spend an afternoon.
Specializing in U-Pick Montmorency Cherries and various other
fruits including Tomcot Apricots and Blackberries, spend the
afternoon sampling the delights of the region. |
|
Sidhu Farms - Puyallup |
A fine family of
farmers who you can meet at many markets throughout Seattle,
Tacoma and the eastside. The Sidhu's specialize in Organic
Blueberries and a great variety of no-spray berries as well.
We have enjoyed cooking with their raspberries, marionberries,
rhubarb, and of course their blueberries. |
|
Tonnemakers Farm - Royal City |
|
|
Youngquist Farm - Mount
Vernon |
Easy to find at a wide
variety of markets on the east side and further north,
Youngquist Farm brings fresh berries to the market every week.
We love to jam their raspberries and blueberries. |
